I know. You’re too busy to do “mission work.” The job, the kids, the (fill in the blank)

It’s easy to make excuses. We live in AMERICA. Our daily needs are met. We have food, water, clothing, and endless opportunities. We don’t see the people in need every day, so we can act like they don’t exist. But guess what? Ignoring it doesn’t change the reality. Children are starving. They need your money, yes, but they also need YOU. They need your passion, your knowledge, your skills, and your love. People around the world are desperate for what YOU have to give. And they need it now – not when everything in your life is perfectly aligned. Let’s face it; that’s never going to happen. When (fill in the blank) is done, something else will be there.

Here’s the important part. We are never promised tomorrow. The book of James is pretty clear on this point:

“Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’ As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them” (James 4:13-17 NIV).

Jesus is coming back and He is coming like a thief in the night. We don’t know how much time we have on earth. He tells us in Matthew: “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come… be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him” (Matthew 24:42-44). Open your Bible and read the rest of this passage (verses 36-51). It’s a real gut check.

I (Tarra) have a job, two kids, lead a local ministry, am finishing a master’s degree, and leading Live Beyond Words. I don’t have time, either. But I serve a God who controls time, space, and energy. He gives me what I need each day. He will do the same for you. Prayerfully consider how you can be a part of the Live Beyond Words movement – not out of obligation, but out of the deep desire of your heart to serve God’s only Son, Jesus Christ, who gave everything for YOU. Our work here on earth is in response to what Jesus did – because of who He is. We are not earning His grace. We have the privilege of loving and serving the One who first loved us.
